Sopore Massacre
The Indian army went on a shooting spree in the main marketplace of Sopore (town in North Kashmir). At least 57 people were killed, some of them were burned alive – after Indian forces set fire on shops and other establishments.
The Indian BSF (Border ‘Security’ Forces) troopers started their attack by getting into a bus that was passing by the main market and shooting every passenger on board. A survivor recalls how a passing car was shot on next, and then a shopkeeper was dragged into the streets and killed. Apart from the human lives lost, this incident caused colossal damage of over 900 Million Rupees
Magarmalbagh Massacre
The marketplace of Magarmalbagh witnessed a brutal military assault when 16 people were massacred, some of them inside their own shops.
Gowkadal Massacre
52 Kashmiris were killed and hundreds were injured by the Indian paramilitary troops of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) during protests against earlier raids, in which wanton arrests and molestation of women were conducted by CRPF troops.
Just like any other war crime committed in Kashmir by the Indian occupational forces, in early 2019, the police closed the investigation into the Gowkadal killings case due to lack of evidence. They blamed the loss of records on the 2014 floods, an event that took place over two decades after the killings.
Alamgari Massacre
The day after the killings at Gowkadal, protests broke out in Alamgari Bazar where 10 people were murdered in cold blood.
UN Security Council Resolution 3779 is passed
The UN passed another resolution affirming that only the will of the people expressed through the democratic method of a free & impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the UN will determine Kashmir’s final status.
Handwara Massacre
Just four days after the Gowkadal killings, Kashmiris marched towards the Handwara Chowk to protest the killings. Indian forces open fired at the demonstration killing 21 people.
Wandhama Massacre
23 Kashmiri Hindus were killed in a massacre in Wandhama village.
Kupwara Massacre
A day after India’s Republic Day – which has become an annual day of observing a hartaal (curfew)- Indian Forces went on a carnage in Kupwara. At least 27 people were killed by Indian forces.
Kupwara has been, in recent years, demonized and called pro-india etc, without taking into notice the widespread army apparatus.
